Classic Streamers: "The Four Horsemen"

MASTER TIER and fly historian Fred Klein is back this week with a look at four streamers that changed the world. "Streamers have been cast into the waters for a very long time," notes Klein."In fact wet flies tied on large hooks have been fished as minnow replicas for probably hundreds of years. But the proper streamer tied on a long hook had its beginnings in New England, particularly in the Catskills and in the North Woods of Maine." Read "The Four Horsemen of Classic Trout Streamers."

"John Bethkeā€™s Pink Squirrel, a fly almost synonymous with Wisconsinā€™s Driftless area," is the inspiration for Tim Flagler's weekly tying video. Tim demonstrates how to tie a Pink Squirrel Variant, which follows Bethke's original recipe but leaves out the Krystal Flash tail.
