BoldBrush Recommends: Milena GuberinicGet Notified When Milena Posts New Art BiographyEach day, without fail, I pick up my brushes and breathe in gratitude for the opportunity and ability to put paint to paper again. To see color, to direct it through rivulets, streams, rivers, and oceans of watery chaos, and to ultimately arrive at a story told in water and color is my greatest joy in life and in art. Artist Statement Milena is a Serbian-born watercolorist and translator living and working in Ridgeway, Canada. Following her formal undergraduate and graduate education in Canada and Japan, Milena sought artistic training through workshops and guided study under a number of figurative and non-figurative watercolorists, including Charles Reid, Eudes Correira, Marcos Beccari, and most recently, Carol Carter and Thomas Schaller. She holds a certificate of study under Thomas Schaller. Milena's turbulent life experiences of forced emigration from her homeland by civil war, the loss of her father at a young age, and her own illness and physical limitations have influenced her choice of medium and subject matter, with the fluid, unpredictable nature of watercolor assisting her expression of the fluid, unpredictable nature of reality. Her paintings evidence a study in contrasts - an interweaving of internal and external realities in colorful, expressive portrayals of form through traditional and experimental technique and careful study of the contrasts of light and dark, what is seen and what is unseen, and most importantly, what is lost and what is found. Milena's study of psychology and keen interest in the field of perception have led to her creative, emotional use of color. Milena's work has been shown in the international annual Open Water Exhibition of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor, is on display at and available for purchase through the Fort Erie Art Council Gallery, and is housed in private collections worldwide. Milena is a member of the Fort Erie Arts Council and an associate member of the Canadian Society for Painters in Watercolor, the American Watercolor Society, and the California Watercolor Association Learn More About Milena Guberinic FASO Loves Kevin Courter’s oil paintings!
