We are excited to 'go live' with our first Militaria Auction of the year which includes a very interesting private collection formed by the Detective Superintendent of Shrewsbury Police during the 1940s-1950s.

These items, found hidden in a trunk in the attic by the granddaughter-in-law of the original owner, were previously unknown to the family (and admittedly, a bit of a shock!). Included in the sale are some highly desirable obsolete calibre pistols dating from the 18th and 19th centuries together with objects relating to the history of policing. Of significant local interest are a number of Victorian Shropshire Police truncheons, which includes a beautifully painted example commemorating the 1926 General Strike in Shrewsbury. Further included are various different types of early handcuffs, First World War trench knuckledusters and a pretty terrifying spiked German trench club.

including a gold Irvin Caterpillar badge with red-stone set eyes, engraved 'F/Sgt. R. E. Roff' to verso and a named certificate

A late 18th-century flintlock blunderbuss pistol by Richardson, Manchester, with brass barrel and frame, with a spring bayonet released by a sliding trigger guard but lacking ramrod, with early Birmingham proof marks, 13 1/2" barrel with bell-mouth, 31cm long.

Lot 109:
A Great War Military Cross group of three medals awarded to "2nd Lt. William Roy Webb" 5th Att'd 2nd Btn. Royal Fusiliers, with War Medal and Victory Medal together with a copy of London Gazette, War Diary, Army Orders, etc - the unnamed Military Cross within the original fitted case.
