More than 2 dozen COVID-19 cases traced to Millinocket wedding reception

  • More than two dozen cases of the coronavirus have been traced back to a wedding reception that took place at the Big Moose Inn in Millinocket on Aug. 7, and more cases are expected, according to Millinocket Regional Hospital and state health officials. 

  • Acme Monaco’s Presque Isle plant has long produced catheter guidewires used to treat heart issues in hospitals across the United States and around the world. But never has their mission seemed so crucial. Production on the wires has gone up 55 percent since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, as hospitals stock up on supplies needed to treat millions of patients suffering from symptoms of the virus, said co-President Rebecca Karabin-Ahern.
  • A nationwide shortage of a particular kind of aluminum is taking its toll on Maine breweries. The Portland Press Herald reported that aluminum can manufacturers have seen “unprecedented demand” during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • June lodging and restaurant tax revenues in Maine rose under relaxed state government coronavirus restrictions, but they remained far below last year’s levels.

  • Maine lawyers filed a class-action lawsuit against Securus Technologies alleging the company illegally intercepted confidential phone calls between attorneys and inmates at county jails in violation of state and federal wiretapping laws.
