Today is Tuesday. Temperatures will be in the high 70s to the high 80s from north to south with thunderstorms and heavy rain across the state. Here's what we're talking about in Maine today.

6 more test positive for COVID-19 as Katahdin-area wedding outbreak grows

  • The virus has now been passed to numerous people in the community who did not attend the wedding or reception, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s because they were either directly exposed to infected wedding guests or had contact with people who caught the infection from guests.
  • York County has at least four cases of COVID-19 among firefighters and EMS clinicians after the discovery of cases involving the Sanford Fire Department, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday.
  • Julia Colby of South Paris and Delaney Haines of Westbrook find themselves looking for a place to play and study after the New York Institute of Technology announced Thursday that it is suspending its athletics programs for at least two years because of financial implications caused by the coronavirus.
  • University of Hong Kong scientists claim to have the first evidence of someone being reinfected with the virus that causes COVID-19. Genetic tests revealed that a 33-year-old man returning to Hong Kong from a trip to Spain in mid-August had a different strain of the coronavirus than the one he’d previously been infected with in March.
UMaine students move onto campus transformed by COVID-19, but are glad to be back

  • On Monday morning, cars lined up on Rangeley Road, waiting to drive through a large tent where all students returning to campus would be tested for COVID-19 without having to leave their cars. Then, students and their families proceeded to their dorms to begin moving in.
A Maine shipyard tests Susan Collins’ seniority argument in historic 2020 campaign
  • For opponents of U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, her 24-year tenure in the Senate is a sign she has been in Washington too long. For supporters, it is a main reason to send her back.

Those opposing perspectives come to a head at Bath Iron Works, where shipbuilders returned to the job this week after a two-month strike that gained national attention. Local S6, the 4,300-member machinists union that was on strike for two months, has yet to make an endorsement this year after supporting Collins during her re-election campaign in 2014.

New pet salon in downtown Bangor to offer anxiety-free grooming services

  • Pleasantly Pampered owner Christina Buck will groom both dogs and cats from her new storefront at 43 Columbia St., Unit 14. Pleasantly Pampered is not the only business to have opened downtown during the pandemic.

The former home of Nicky’s Cruisin’ Diner in Bangor is being torn down
  • Bulldozers on Monday quickly demolished the rear part of the building, located at 961 Union St., which formerly was the site of Nicky’s Cruisin’ Diner, a Bangor eatery that closed in June after more than 30 years in business. The rest of the building will come down at a later date.

Maine's North Woods bracing for busy months of bear and moose hunting

  • The group that oversees huge tracts of the state's industrial forest is warning hunters and other potential travelers to expect plenty of company in the coming weeks, and is asking for visitors to be considerate during their trips to northern Maine.
