Today I’m continuing the series with your next millionaire productivity secret, which is:
Owning the night with the ultimate evening routine.
If you look at any high performer…
They don’t wake up in the morning and go…
"Oh man, I don't know what time it is, I don't know what I'm gonna do today, better make a to-do list."
They know that doesn’t work. So they've already done the planning and preparation by owning the night before.
They're not staying up late, they're not binge watching Netflix, they're not binge drinking, they're not binge eating…
They're just binge sleeping. Really high quality REM sleep, quality deep sleep.
So they get up in the morning — on time, they don't hit snooze…
And they go to work immediately on the most important thing to move them ahead in life, because they already planned it and know exactly what that is.
They win the day by owning the night before.
So how do you do that?
You have to have a hard cut off time for work so you’re not feeling guilty and thinking about work when you’re with your family…
Or thinking about your family when you're at work.
We can’t do that. We owe it to ourselves and the people we love to be focused, and present wherever we are.
So we’ve got to have a hard cut-off time that separates work and life.
I'm a big believer in separation of work life and home life. Do not blend it.
And at the end of your work day, plan the following day.
Get everything that needs to happen out of your head and down on paper. Prioritize your most important tasks, and use that to make tomorrow’s to-do list.
Then you can attack the day with intention when you wake up.
And to make sure you begin each day with full energy…
Each night use a “reverse alarm.”
That means an hour before bed, your alarm sounds and you shut everything off (like computers, the TV, your phone).
Choose whatever time you want, it doesn’t matter. Just set your alarm 60 minutes before your desired bedtime.
Why?
It keeps you from accidentally staying up too late, or making it harder for yourself to fall asleep.
You shut off all your electronics — stop flooding your eyes with all that blue light that stops your brain from producing melatonin…
And you just do old school activities as I like to call them…
Like talking to people, making your lunch, taking a bath, doing jigsaw puzzle, reading a book, whatever those things are that allow you to unwind.
When your head hits the pillow… boom, you binge sleep.
That’s how you wake up refreshed and slide right into your most important work because you know exactly what to do.
