Lockdown restrictions are continuing to ease around the UK, but concerns remain over the spread of the Indian Covid variant.
View email online | | | | | May 18, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening, It was interesting to see members of the Government’s SAGE committee commenting on the best way to deal with the Indian variant of Covid - the one which is causing so much concern in Lancashire. Committee members apparently suggested that the Government should throw every resource it has at stopping the spread of the virus - with nothing ruled out. So localised lockdowns, surge testing and extra vaccinations are all on the cards unless we get a grip of this variant before it gets a grip of us. What we have to remember is that the Indian variant has spread while we were supposedly in lockdown...before the partial re-opening of society on Monday. The fear, therefore, will be that opening up hospitality, cinemas, museums etc, will only add to the risk and therefore the spread. To a degree the answer lies in our own hands rather than the scientists. While it is tempting to go mad after lockdown, caution is what is required now. Yes, enjoy meeting up with family and friends, but play it safe. We will get through this if we heed the advice.
