Cool-down ahead. Tonight, look for mostly clear skies, with lows in the upper 40s to the mid-50s. Tomorrow will be sunny and another gorgeous day in Minnesota with highs in the upper 60s to the mid-70s in northeast, to the mid-80s southwest. Rain, mainly north, will creep in on Wednesday night.

Minnesota aims for quick turnaround on $300 federal unemployment boostAfter securing federal approval for enhanced benefits over the weekend, Minnesota’s unemployment officials hope to quickly dispatch the extra $300 in weekly aid to qualified recipients. DEED Commissioner Steve Grove says the money will be retroactive to the end of the previous program, but that the money could run out again as soon as this month.

U of M lays out strict new guidelines for students returning to campuses in Twin Cities, Duluth, Rochester. The plan includes confining students mostly to their residence halls or university-owned apartments for 10 days, except for work, eating or going to in-person classes. It also includes a prohibition on visiting off campus businesses and other restrictions.  The second two-week phase offers wider access, but includes a 9 p.m. curfew for resident students.

6 more deaths, 502 new COVID-19 cases, as testing drops. Only one of the deaths was in a long-term care facility, and all were age 60 or older. Testing fell below 10,000 again but the percent of test results coming back positive also stayed above 5 percent for the sixth straight day. The per-capita rate of infection in southern Minnesota has been climbing steeply in the last week, nearly doubling since July.

CDC has not reduced the death count related to COVID-19
