MPR News PM Update

A large, chilly area of high pressure is sliding in straight from the north out of Canada. It will give us lots of sunshine and lighten up the wind but also make for a couple of very chilly nights.

The first half of this week will be cool and below normal with frost possible in many areas Monday and Tuesday nights. A warmup develops later this week into the weekend with 70s returning for southern Minnesota.

Twin Cities group of Latino poets celebrates 20th anniversary
Palabristas is a core group of Latino poets who meet regularly to share their life experiences through their words. Beyond poetry, the group works to build engagement and foster understanding of the Latino community.
Minn. appeals court rules that racial imbalance in Twin Cities schools doesn’t violate constitution unless intentional
Lead plaintiff Alejandro Cruz-Guzman and other parents with students in the Minneapolis and St. Paul school districts filed the class-action lawsuit against the state, the Department of Education and the Legislature in 2015. They claimed racial and socioeconomic segregation in schools in those districts has led to achievement gaps between children of color and those living in poverty and white students.
 
Memorial service for fallen Minnesota firefighters honors their service
Eleven columns representing firefighters who died in the line of duty were added to the Minnesota Fallen Firefighter Memorial at a ceremony Sunday afternoon in St. Paul. Located near the Minnesota State Capitol, the memorial honors the 241 Minnesota firefighters who’ve died on the job since 1881.
 
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota State Patrol are cracking down on distracted drivers
Traffic stops in Minnesota overall this year are up 15 percent and arrests for alcohol-impaired driving are up nearly 30 percent over last year, the State Patrol said.
