Not-too-bad January days for Minnesota. The rest of this week will be a bit colder, but no big winter weather event is ahead this weekend, phew! A chance of light snow across Minnesota tomorrow, with highs in the 20s to 30s. Saturday will be snow-free, with highs in the 20s across the state.

Lexii Alijai, St. Paul’s rising rapper, died on New Year’s Day at 21. Alijai had won fans around the world for her inspired flow and inspiring career. Family members confirmed her death on social media on Jan. 1, the Current’s Jay Gabler wrote on Local Current Blog. “Saddest way to start a new year,” singer-songwriter Kehlani tweeted, who collaborated with Alijai.

Paid for your online tax filing prep for previous years? You could have gotten it for free. The IRS announced changes to its deal with tax prep software companies, called Free File, that bars those companies from hiding their free products from search engines, ProPublica reports. The reform came after a report showing how tax prep companies like Intuit and H&R Block tricked customers into paying for tax prep they could have gotten for free.

Video edited to suggest Biden made racist remark
A video clip that shows Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden saying, “Our culture is not imported from some African nation or some Asian nation,” is being taken out of context and posted on social media to suggest he is racist.

Twin Cities’ ‘peek-a-boo weatherman’ ZeVan dies at 82
Broadcasting legend Barry ZeVan died on New Years Day at the age of 82. ZeVan, known as the “peek-a-boo weatherman,” was a house-hold name in the 1970s and ‘80s.
