Happy Friday! We’ll see some showers and thunderstorms at times, but we’ll have many dry hours this weekend too.

Parts of southwestern Minnesota could see scattered showers Friday afternoon. A batch of showers and thunderstorms is expected to spread across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin Friday evening and overnight Friday night, then linger into early Saturday in northern Minnesota and parts of eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Another batch of showers and thunderstorms will affect parts of Minnesota late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.

Minnesota angler catches fresh water jellyfish on camera
A St. Cloud resident discovered freshwater jellyfish during a recent fishing trip. The species is not native to Minnesota, but DNR officials say they aren’t considered invasive and have been in various Minnesota lakes for years.

Opening-day attendance at this year's Minnesota State Fair rebounded in a big way from last year. Fair officials reported 121,478 people passed through the gates on Thursday amid near-perfect weather conditions.

Students from two-year technical or community colleges bear the biggest financial burden from loans. While their debts may be smaller than those who went to four-year schools, the group sees loan defaults at the highest rate.
