Here's the latest news from across the state to start your day. ☕
🌡️ Temperatures will be close to normal across southern Minnesota today, mostly in the 20s with some low 30s in southwest Minnesota. Northern Minnesota will be considerably colder with single digits in the northwest.

❄️ Snow develops Friday night in western Minnesota and will expand east. Expect snow much of Saturday for central Minnesota into western Wisconsin, mostly wrapping up by evening.

'No-shenanigans handshake' helps usher in Minnesota House return after prolonged power standoff

Some members crossed the aisle to shake hands and to hug one another as they came into session. And they cheered and whistled as Secretary of State Steve Simon announced that the House had the votes it needed to get to work. In its first official act, the House elected Republican Rep. Lisa Demuth the new House speaker on a 67-65 vote.
 
Construction on George Floyd Square delayed, council puts redesign plan 'on ice'

Construction on George Floyd Square is facing a setback as Minneapolis City Council members voted Thursday to table a redesign plan for the intersection and instead consider making it a pedestrian-only plaza, despite property owner opposition to that plan.
🏥 New behavioral health clinic focusing on rural communities opens doors in Mankato. About 80 percent of Minnesota counties are considered mental health service shortage areas. Only 5 percent of counselors practice in rural settings and only 2 percent practice in areas considered highly isolated rural settings.

🚌 School bus driver narrowly avoids head-on collision with semi in central Minnesota.  The Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office says a northbound semi crossed over into the lane of the southbound school bus north of Shakopee Lake Road shortly before 7:15 a.m.

🏈 Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell awarded AP NFL Coach of the Year. O'Connell beat out Detroit's Dan Campbell for AP NFL Coach of the Year after leading the Minnesota Vikings to 14 wins with quarterback Sam Darnold.

🎨 Van Gogh or no? Painting found at Minnesota garage sale stirs controversy about authenticity. The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam says a painting found at a garage sale in Minnesota that art researchers believe is a long-lost Vincent van Gogh portrait isn't the real deal.

🥐 Croissants and roses: The May Day Cafe reopens in Minneapolis as a worker cooperative. The longtime community hub will reopen Friday as the worker-owned May Day Cafe Workers Cooperative , after raising over $100,000 in small donations and securing city funding.

🚓 Minnesota State Patrol honors civilians and law enforcement officers for heroic acts. The various acts of heroism ran the gambit, from pulling people from burning cars, to administering lifesaving first aid, to getting impaired drivers off the road.

🏭 Honeywell, one of the few remaining U.S. industrial conglomerates, will split into three companies. Honeywell was headquartered in Minneapolis for decades until a 1999 merger. It plans to separate its automation and aerospace technologies businesses following similar actions by companies like General Electric.
🎧 Minneapolis to Montgomery: The Police and Black Men Project. A group of Minneapolis police officers and community members recently took a trip to Montgomery, Ala., to tour museums and historical sites. MPR News host Angela Davis was invited to go along and facilitated a conversation about the Minneapolis Police Department and the ambitious effort led by the Police and Black Men Project.

The person at the center of the investigation by state agencies, insurance companies, reporters and private detectives is the owner, Bryce Campbell.

🎧 Girlhood Social Club creating belonging among women in the Twin Cities. Kacie Riddle noticed many young people, especially young women, were craving a space to foster connection and new friendships. She started Girlhood Social Club last year.
