The U.S. Supreme Court declared Minnesota’s process for handling tax-forfeited properties unconstitutional. Now, Geraldine Tyler and other affected Minnesotans stand to receive thousands of dollars as part of a legal settlement.
 
UW-River Falls adopts suicide prevention plan after 4 student deaths


River Falls leaders have unveiled their plan in the case of another student death, which they hope they’ll “never have to use.” The campus has been working on developing a “postvention plan” — a coordinated response among university officials, faculty and staff and some students — in the case of another student death on campus.  

👩‍⚖️ Prosecutors drop shelter attack charges against ‘misidentified’ suspect. Prosecutors say a man arrested Friday was not the person who pistol whipped two women outside St. Anne’s Place on Sept. 5 and fired a shot into an unoccupied car during a dispute over street parking.

🗣️ Trump held his first campaign event since the apparent assassination attempt. Trump’s town hall in Michigan was shorter than his typical campaign rally, but he used the event to discuss everything from the failed attempts on his life to a promise to boost the auto industry.

🏛️ Senate Republicans again block legislation to guarantee the right to IVF. Republicans have blocked for a second time this year legislation to establish a nationwide right to in vitro fertilization, arguing that the vote is an election-year stunt after Democrats forced a vote on the issue.

🎤 Harris calls Trump’s remarks about Haitian immigrants in Springfield a ‘crying shame.’ Harris said Trump’s remarks about immigrants eating pets were lies rooted in racist tropes, and in some of her most forceful language yet about the debunked claim, insisted it “has to to stop.”

💸 The Federal Reserve is on the verge of cutting interest rates. Here’s what to know. The Fed is expected to start cutting interest rates on Wednesday — marking a milestone in the central bank’s long-running battle against inflation.
