☀️ It’s another seasonably-cool start to the day Tuesday, but afternoon highs will climb into the 70s across southern Minnesota, pushing temperatures 5-15 degrees above normal.

🌡️ The heat returns Thursday when high temperatures will soar into the 80s across southern Minnesota. Then a cool front Friday will drop temperatures back to seasonable levels for the weekend.

For local Palestinians, trauma remains as war in Gaza continues

The last year has been painful for Raghda Skeik. At the start of the war, her parents and all her siblings were in Gaza. Skeik says they are all still alive, miraculously.

But for her and her family in Minnesota, there is constant trauma as they monitor every bit of news coming out of the Middle East. Many like Skeik wait with worry and dread to hear news from family and friends who are in harm’s way.

🛶 Voyageurs National Park ranger dies while helping stranded boaters in rough waters. A Voyageurs National Park ranger died Sunday while responding to a call for help from a family stranded on an island on Namakan Lake amid high winds and rough waters.

🕯️ Over a thousand gather at Minnetonka synagogue to mark anniversary of Oct. 7 attack on Israel. The Twin Cities area Jewish community marked the anniversary of the attack on Israel with a somber service at a Minnetonka synagogue on Monday.

❄️ City of Duluth adds to flurry of snowplow naming contests. T
he city of Duluth has announced its first-ever snowplow naming contest ahead of this coming winter. The city is inviting Duluth residents to submit their most creative names for one of the city’s snowplow fleet through Oct. 21.

📈 Poll: In the midst of a tight presidential race, Trump draws support from voters disillusioned with democracy. New polling shows this year’s Harris v. Trump presidential race is too close to call, with Trump drawing support from voters who are disillusioned with democracy. Results from the McCourtney Institute for Democracy’s Sept. 23-27, 2024, Mood of the Nation Poll.

🎥 Cine Latino returns for its 12th year at the Main Cinema. The festival celebrates Latin American, U.S. Latinx and Ibero Cinema. Over five days, the festival will offer Spanish and Portuguese-language films, with special guests, fiestas and food trucks.

🚨 Man in custody after reports of shots fired in Loring Park. A man is in custody with minor injuries after multiple reports of shots fired from a Loring Park apartment Monday afternoon. No other injuries were reported and it’s not clear whether there was gunfire.
🎧 Minneapolis rabbi reflects on one year since Oct. 7 Hamas attack. Rabbi Arielle Lekach Rosenberg, the lead rabbi of Shir Tikvah in Minneapolis, joined MPR News host Cathy Wurzer to reflect on the heaviness of the day.

🎧 ‘I’m getting nervous:’ Minnesotan in Florida on Hurricane Milton. Just before noon Monday, the National Weather Service announced Hurricane Milton had quickly grown into a Category 5 storm — which means catastrophic damage will occur once the storm makes landfall.
