Minnesota abortion law signed by Walz scrutinized during VP debate

Internet searches about Minnesota’s abortion law — the first state to codify access after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — were high during Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate and into Wednesday morning, according to Google Trends. Reproductive health reporter Shefali Luthra with The 19th joined Morning Editon host Cathy Wurzer Wednesday to dig into the details.
 
Harris-Walz campaign kicks off a nationwide effort to reach Native voters

Tribal leaders from across the country showed their support for the democratic ticket at Mystic Lake Event Center in Prior Lake on Wednesday. Native American civic leaders say the Harris-Walz campaign is prepared to support issues that impact Indigenous communities.
🚅 Minneapolis grants consent for Blue Line Extension through city’s north side. The council granted municipal consent for the Blue Line Extension, a 13-mile route through Robbinsdale, Crystal and Brooklyn Park.

Minnesota United clinches berth in 2024 MLS Cup playoffs with 0-0 tie against Real Salt Lake. Minnesota United (13-12-7) are unbeaten in three consecutive games and have won four of their last six. Minnesota clinched a berth in the 2024 MLS Cup playoffs after FC Dallas lost later Wednesday night against the San Jose Earthquakes.

🪧 On Wrongful Conviction Day, people rally for incarcerated loved ones in Minnesota. Wednesday marked the 11th annual International Wrongful Conviction Day, an awareness effort spearheaded by the Innocence Network. The justice coalition includes Minnesota’s Great North Innocence Project, whose attorneys helped prove Marvin Haynes’ innocence.

🚨 St. Paul police release body cam video of officers shooting Lowertown homicide suspect. Seantrell Tyreese Murdock, 29, was shot as St. Paul officers attempted to arrest him early Thursday, Sept. 26, outside a home in Belle Plaine, southwest of the Twin Cities.

💰 New loan lands Feeding Our Future founder back in court on alleged pretrial release violation. The accused ringleader of a $250 million scheme to defraud government child nutrition programs allegedly violated her pretrial release conditions by taking out a new student loan.

🏀 Knicks add Karl-Anthony Towns from Timberwolves after completing three-team trade with Hornets. The deal was agreed to Friday but took a few days to complete under the NBA's complicated new trade rules, meaning Towns has not been able to practice with the Knicks in their first two days of training camp in Charleston.

🍁 Fall color near peak now in northeastern Minnesota. Fall colors are approaching peak now across parts of northeastern Minnesota. Tuesday’s Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fall color map shows 50 to 75 percent color patches in parts of northern Minnesota. 
🎧 For one runner with chronic illness, upcoming marathon is a chance to show what's possible. When Molly Monk was diagnosed with the chronic condition known as POTS in 2019, she struggled to find her footing and identity while hit with bouts of exhaustion that sometimes kept her from doing even basic activities like standing to brush her teeth.
