🌦️ Sunshine early Monday will quickly give way to afternoon clouds and rain late in the day. Significant rain is likely nearly statewide with rain turning to snow for some.

☔ Rain showers will reach Interstate 90 by early afternoon Monday and spread north to the Twin Cities by late afternoon and St. Cloud by evening. Rain will turn to snow in northwest Minnesota late Tuesday.

Innovative Iron Range landfill project tackles climate change, ‘forever chemicals’

Landfills aren’t typically associated with green innovation. But a new project at a small landfill on the Iron Range is simultaneously helping to tackle two of society’s most vexing environmental problems — climate change and the treatment of so-called “forever chemicals" such as PFAS.
 
In Wabasha, a collector puts his passion for all things eagles on full display

Preston Cook spent decades collecting tens of thousands of items bearing bald eagle imagery. The longtime California real estate developer donated the collection to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha and then moved to town.
 
Mille Lacs Lake anglers can keep two walleye this winter

Positive trends in the walleye population of Mille Lacs Lake are prompting the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to allow anglers to take home two walleye within a certain size. The DNR sets the total harvest for the fishing year with eight Ojibwe tribes that retain treaty fishing rights. The state and the tribes set regulations to stay within their share of the harvest. 
👩‍⚕️ What’s ahead for abortion access in Minnesota under a Trump administration. While detailed plans have yet to emerge, health and legal experts, practitioners and advocates in Minnesota are closely monitoring the new administration for hints about what federal changes to abortion could mean for the state.

🧑‍⚖️ Jury selection begins in Fergus Falls for two men charged with human smuggling that resulted in deaths. Two men are accused of smuggling Indian nationals across the U.S. border from Canada. A family of four perished in a snowstorm two years ago after they got separated from a larger group and froze to death.

🗳️ Hubbard County election judge faces felony charges for allegedly allowing unregistered voters to cast ballots. Prosecutors in Hubbard County say Timothy Michael Scouton — who was head judge at a precinct in rural Badoura Township — allowed 11 people to vote even though they had not registered.

🏛️ Trump Pentagon pick and Minnesotan Pete Hegseth had been flagged as possible ‘Insider Threat.' The Army National Guard veteran and Fox News host nominated to lead the Department of Defense was flagged by a fellow service member due to a tattoo he has that's associated with white supremacist groups.

📷 Photos: We saw you Rock Your Mocs! Several Indigenous community members shared their moccasin photos in honor of “Rock Your Mocs” week, including Fond du Lac Band tribal citizen and artist Wendy Savage. Savage has been making moccasins since the 1980s.

🏈 Sam Darnold leads Vikings to 3rd straight win, beating Titans 23-13. Sam Darnold overcame an early fumble by throwing for 246 yards and two touchdowns and running for a score. The Minnesota Vikings beat the Tennessee Titans 23-13.

🏀 Randle hits 3 at the buzzer to lift Timberwolves over Suns with 120-117 win. As soon as it left his hands, Julius Randle knew his winning 3-pointer was going in. He got the ball with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns tied at 117 and 2.1 seconds to play.
🎧 President-elect Trump brings South Dakota politicians into national spotlight. Trump has nominated South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to be the Secretary of Homeland Security. And on Wednesday, longtime Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., was elected as the new Senate Majority Leader. Now both have seen their national prominence elevated.

🎧 Xcel Energy asks for a 13 percent rate increase to fund infrastructure investments. The demand for electricity in Minnesota is growing, and that means costs are going up, too. Xcel Energy has requested a 13 percent rate increase over the next two years and plans to increase capital spending by $11 billion over the next five years.
