☀️ Highs will run into the 50s across most of Minnesota on Friday afternoon. Temperatures this weekend will run in the 40s to lower 50s.

🌧️ Overall, rainfall looks fairly light across Minnesota this weekend. Most forecast models lay out around one-quarter inch of precipitation or less in many areas.

Minnesota experts weigh in on possible immigration policy changes under Trump administration

Immigration experts and advocates in Minnesota are both preparing for and wondering what changes may happen to an already complex immigration system under another Trump administration. As part of his 2024 presidential campaign, President-elect Donald Trump promised to start mass deportations of undocumented immigrants and has said the National Guard may be needed to help carry out those orders.
 
Report: Young Minnesota voters preferred Harris less than Biden

Young voters nationwide had the highest support for Vice President Kamala Harris of any age group on Election Day, according to early voter turnout data, yet overall there was increased support for former President Donald Trump among young people in this election compared to 2020.
 
Edmund Fitzgerald’s final voyage captured in radio play

After four decades, Minnesota writer Hal Barnes has brought a radio play capturing the SS Edmund Fitzgerald’s fateful final voyage to life — with help from a couple of old friends.
⚖️ Adam Fravel found guilty on all charges in Kingsbury murder. After a three-week trial, the jury in the trial of Adam Fravel found him guilty of four charges for the murder of Madeline Kingsbury.  The case attracted national attention and was moved from Winona to Mankato as a result.

📱 Black Minnesotans receive text messages telling them to go ‘to the nearest plantation.’ Tawonda Burks was one of many Black Americans targeted by the text messages.  It came from a Twin Cities number, included her full name and was overtly vile.

🏛️ ‘We can save lives:’ Ramsey County prosecutor pushes use of ‘red flag’ gun law. Under the red flag law, 14-day emergency firearm seizures require a person to give up their guns immediately.  Long-term extreme-risk protection orders take effect only after a hearing so that the gun owner may challenge the petition.

🗳️ Jake Anderson 'excited about the future' as St. Cloud's new mayor. Anderson edged out his opponent in Tuesday’s election with about 51 percent of the vote. He will replace longtime mayor Dave Kleis who did not seek reelection after nearly two decades in office.

🧑‍⚖️ Man wrongfully convicted of 2008 Minneapolis murder freed from prison. Edgar Barrientos-Quintana was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of Jesse Mickelson in Minneapolis. Earlier this year, the state’s Conviction Review Unit determined that serious flaws were made in the case.

🌧️ Minnesota's drought conditions are showing signs of improvement. Recent rounds of rainfall have helped alleviate some of the dryness, with a few areas seeing a reduction in drought severity. Precipitation totals over the past seven days have ranged from 1 inch to more than 3 inches across Minnesota.

🏒 Pro Women's Hockey League unveils home and away jersey designs for upcoming 2nd season. The uniforms were made and supplied by Bauer, and their release comes two months after the PWHL revealed the nicknames and logos of each its franchises.

🍺 Molson Coors to close Leinenkugel’s Brewery in Chippewa Falls. More than 50 people at the Chippewa Falls plant are expected to lose jobs. The closures are part of a plan to consolidate operations at the company’s main Milwaukee Brewery.

🏛️ President Biden urges Americans to 'bring down the temperature.' President Joe Biden promised a peaceful transfer of power when his administration ends in January, as he hands off the White House to his former opponent, President-elect Donald Trump.
🎧 Cathy Wurzer passes the mic to Nina Moini, new Minnesota Now host. Thursday was Cathy Wurzer’s final show as host of Minnesota Now. She is stepping away to focus on Morning Edition. MPR News editor Nina Moini is taking over starting on Monday. Moini came in-studio to introduce herself and also to look back at Wurzer’s favorite moments from the show.
