☁️ A cold front approaching from the Dakotas will bring clouds and another opportunity for sporadic rain showers on Monday. Highs will be in the low to mid-60s in the southeast and the lower 40s in the northwest.

🥶Expect cooler temperatures for Election Day. It will be mostly cloudy with another chance for rain. Highs will be in the upper 40s.

Minnesota campaigns, volunteers make their final play for votes as clock ticks down

Democrats and Republicans spent the weekend knocking on doors and rolling out around the state to make their closing arguments ahead of Election Day. More than 1 million people have already voted through early absentee or mail voting, including some at in-person polling stations set up over the weekend across Minnesota.
 
In Thief River Falls, electoral issues range from local to national

In northwestern Minnesota, about 70 miles south of the Canadian border, sits the Pennington County seat of Thief River Falls. With a population of just under 9,000, it’s home to industry behemoths Arctic Cat and Digi-Key — two of the area’s largest employers. For election season in this heavily conservative part of the state, national politics are taking a back seat to a local hot-button issue that crosses political divides.
 
Minnesota law bans harassment, intimidation of election workers

With concerns about election-related violence on the rise, poll workers and election officials in Minnesota have some new legal protections. While there have been only sporadic problems in Minnesota, the measure was prompted by harassment elsewhere.
🗳️ A Native-led nonprofit hopes for record turnout at the pollsAs the Native vote gets more attention, organizers with the Make Voting a Tradition campaign help community members l earn about the issues, register to vote and hear from some of the candidates running for office.

 Public input sought on major powerline proposed for southwest Minnesota. Xcel Energy wants to build the roughly 170-mile power line from Garvin in Lyon County to Becker in central Minnesota. It would connect solar and wind energy from southwest Minnesota to the electrical grid.

📺 Harris appears on 'Saturday Night Live' as mirror image of Maya Rudolph with election looming. Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” briefly stepping away from the battleground states where she’s been furiously campaigning. Harris appeared in a mirror opposite Maya Rudolph's impression of her.

🎤 Trump talks about reporters being shot and says he shouldn't have left White House in 2020. On the final Sunday of a rollercoaster presidential contest, Republican nominee Donald Trump is asking voters in Pennsylvania again to make him leader of a “failed nation” while also unleashing a profane, conspiracy-laden rant asserting U.S. elections are not legitimate in the first place.

👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 Women sharing personal stories about abortion bans have become a political force.
Women who have suffered unnecessarily after being denied abortions are talking about it publicly, and to support candidates. Could these stories have a political impact in the upcoming election?

💥 Israel says it carried out ground raid into Syria, seizing a Syrian citizen connected to Iran. The Israeli military said Sunday it carried out a ground raid into Syria, seizing a Syrian citizen involved in Iranian networks. It was the first time in the current war that Israel has announced sending troops into Syria.

🏈 Darnold throws 3 TD passes in 2nd half as Vikings overcome 3 turnovers to beat Flacco, Colts 21-13. Wherever this strong start to the season winds up leading the Minnesota Vikings, it's clear that belief and resilience will be responsible for a significant measure of their success.
🎧 Warmer winters can mean more salt on Minnesota roads. Warmer winters may cause more freeze-thaw cycles and increased road salt use. State maintenance engineer Jed Falgren spoke to MPR News chief meteorologist Paul Huttner about what MnDOT is doing to maximize road safety in a changing climate.

🎧 Talking Volumes: Kate DiCamillo. Beloved children’s author Kate DiCamillo published three new books this year: “Ferris,” “Orris and Timble: The Beginning,” and “The Hotel Balzaar.” She has two more coming next year — plus 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the book that started it all, “Because of Winn-Dixie.”
