Trump wins the White House in political comeback rooted in appeals to frustrated voters

With a win in Wisconsin, Donald Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency — an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was convicted of felony charges and survived two assassination attempts.
 
No surprises in Minnesota congressional races; state House majority still fluid

The Minnesota Senate will stay in DFL control. The outcome of the state House of Representatives still hung in the balance in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, although the House GOP leader said Republicans flipped enough seats to control that body.
 
Narrow election blocks Tim Walz from becoming third Minnesotan vice president. Walz is set to return to St. Paul to serve out the remaining two years of his term after spending months crisscrossing the country campaigning.

Republicans take Senate majority for first time in 4 years. Democrats watched their efforts to salvage their slim majority slip out of reach as tallies rolled in across a map that favored Republicans.

‘Should have never happened’: Group in halfway house wrongly told they can’t vote. The Minnesota Department of Corrections is reminding transitional housing providers that people with a felony record are allowed to vote unless they are in prison or jail under a law that went into effect in June 2023.

In Minnesota politics, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Tuesday’s election resulted in sweeping victories for Republicans across the nation. An initial look at Minnesota’s elections, however, suggests that voters in the North Star State were not so moved.

Republicans retain control of Wisconsin Legislature despite new maps. Republicans emerged from Tuesday's elections still in complete control of the Wisconsin Legislature, overcoming new district boundaries that Democrats had hoped would give them a chance at finally making major inroads in both chambers.

Abortion rights advocates win in 4 states and clear way to overturn Missouri ban but lose in Florida. Abortion rights advocates lost on a Florida ballot measure but prevailed in four other states, including Missouri, where an amendment clears the way to undo one of the nation’s strictest bans.
