As campaign nears finish, Walz adds dashes of digs to his portions of joy

The Democratic vice presidential candidate entered the race emphasizing positivity in politics. In the final stretch to Election Day, he’s trying to thread the needle between needling Donald Trump and JD Vance while still keeping an optimistic message.
 
Minnesota Lynx fans hope Game 4 ends in a win — and a traditional team ‘Electric Slide’ dance

When it comes to the Electric Slide, fan Naima Farah says she believes it was Lynx player Sylvia Fowles, who joined the team in 2015, that suggested a more coordinated dance. In an interview with On Her Turf by NBC Sports published earlier this week, both Naphessa Collier and coach Cheryl Reeve said the tradition started before they got to the Lynx, but they didn’t know the origin.
🏦 New office brings much needed banking resources to HmongTown Marketplace. The marketplace recently partnered with Stearns Bank to help address banking needs in the Hmong community.

🗣️ At Wisconsin stops, Harris campaign features less talk of joy and more attacks on Trump. In La Crosse on Thursday, Harris told a rally crowd that Trump “will stop at nothing to claim unchecked power for himself.” It’s a shift from the “joy” that swirled around her elevation to the top of the Democratic ticket this summer.

🏛️ Feeding Our Future defendant unlikely to face jail for ‘minor role’ in scam. Farhiya Ahmed Mohamud of Bloomington pleaded guilty Thursday to a single count of money laundering. In exchange,  prosecutors pledged to drop 21 additional money laundering counts.

🚫 Minneapolis City Council moves forward on carbon fee in override of mayoral veto. The policy will require polluters to pay a fee per pound of carbon dioxide emitted starting in 2025. City council members supporting the policy say it will deter pollution and help combat climate change.

🍎 Winner of 3M Young Scientist Challenge invents AI pesticide detector for produce. Fourteen-year-old Sirish Subash — a ninth-grader from Snellville, Ga. — was crowned the winner of the 2024 3M Young Scientist Challenge contest in St. Paul this week. He picked up a cash prize of $25,000 and the lesson that moms are always right.
