The city that's most associated with his ministry, though, is Detroit, where he spent two decades serving the poor and sick. At the time, Detroit was a true boomtown fueled by the growing automotive industry. It was filled with factories and executive boardrooms—not the most obvious fit for such a gentle and humble friar.
