Isn’t it nice to be back at the theatre? We think so. We might have become accustomed to livestream productions over the last year and a half, but nothing is quite the same as being in the same room as the show. The harmonies, the heat of the lights, the gasps of the strangers around you, the wind from the dancers hitting you. These two productions from British Youth Music Theatre are the immersive, high-energy way to welcome yourselves back. Whether you fancy a dark cabaret or a comic book musical (or both!) August is looking to be a great month to head down to the Bridewell Theatre, near Blackfriars. Here’s a little more about the two productions.
Cabaret Macabre
‘Welcome to the darkest party in town, in which emcee Joan of Arc invites you all to kick up a storm on behalf of the most maligned and mistreated women of the last seven centuries.’ Sounds good, right? Let’s dig deeper. This show is a cabaret welcoming the true stories of women who had their lives cut short: Joan of Arc, Marie Antoinette, Marilyn Monroe, and the spy Mata Hari are all making an appearance. They take back their stories in a night of powerful cabaret. Brace yourselves for the truth behind the beheadings, drugging and persecution that led to their untimely deaths, all brought to life in a great, dazzling, and though-provoking show. It’ll run on August 6 and August 7. The age guidance is 14 years and older, given the themes.

Nightshade
You’re now entering Valeria, a gothic metropolis. In this comic book world, we follow a group of young herbalists with a vigilante agenda. They live in a wonderful place, at day time, but at night the darkness infiltrates the city. It affects the community, and it continues to grow. Can they stop this strange force? And can they figure out just who is behind it? Who is the White Wiccan? And who is the silhouetted figure on the rooftops? In this musical, we find out. This epic show full of grand songs will take place on August 13 and August 14. People 12 years and older can attend.
