Situational Analysis | Feb. 28, 2024 It's Wednesday and National Chocolate Soufflé Day. It's all floor time, all the time, until midnight on Friday. Three things to watch: MLB proposal undergoes big changes. HB562, the Utah Fairpark Area Investment and Restoration District bill, was substituted by sponsor Rep. Ryan Wilcox on the floor of the House yesterday. The new version of the bill removes the transient room tax that was giving lawmakers heartburn. The bill then passed the House, had a Senate committee hearing yesterday afternoon and is waiting for full Senate consideration. Elected officials and their calendars. Yesterday, a Third District court judge ordered Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes to release his work calendar, ruling that it was a public record. Just hours later, at 8:13 pm, the Utah House passed SB240, which would keep the work calendars of all public officials private. If the governor signs the bill, it would take effect immediately. SB194 Social Media Regulation Amendments. SB194 by Sen. Mike McKell would require social media companies to verify the ages of users and to provide supervisory tools for parents. It is 10th on the House third reading calendar and is expected to pass. On the Hill Today, Day 43 of 45 9:15-11:50 am: Senate floor time 9:00 am-12:00 pm: House floor time 2:00 pm-as needed: Senate floor time 2:00 pm-as needed: House floor time | |
| Protect the freedoms of public employees across Utah by voting NO on H.B. 285. H.B. 285 creates big government intrusion on private matters, threatens individual agency, and takes away paycheck freedom. It needlessly increases government red tape and places financial burdens on teachers, firefighters, nurses, police officers, and other public servants. | |
