Welcome to your wonderful weather weekend. You can expect a somewhat frosty morning Saturday but the rest of the weekend is going to be downright delightful with highs in the 70s in many areas, with a few 80s in southwestern Minnesota and some 60s northeast. Most of our weekend hours will be dry, but a few scattered showers are possible in central and southern Minnesota late Friday evening into Saturday morning. Calls grow for Minneapolis police union leader Bob Kroll’s resignation. Critics say Lt. Bob Kroll is blocking the way to real changes in the Minneapolis Police Department. However, others contend Kroll is only a symptom of a much deeper cultural problem within the department. A demonstration calling for Kroll to step down began Friday afternoon in front of the Minneapolis Police Federation headquarters in northeast Minneapolis. Tune into All Things Considered for updates this evening. Latest on COVID-19 in MN: 25 more deaths; hospitalizations, ICU cases dip. Those last two metrics are closely watched by state officials as they try to manage the spread of the disease so it does not overwhelm the health care system. The newest counts come as health officials cautioned earlier this week that the coronavirus could surge again in the fall and winter along with influenza. World Bank report: Pandemic has caused deepest recession in decades The report published Monday compares the current economic crisis to the 13 other recessions that have hit the global economy since 1870. This recession is the first to be triggered solely by a pandemic, and it is enormous. Lake of the Woods appears to be untouched by COVID-19, for now. COVID-19 has spread across nearly the entire state of Minnesota. But Lake of the Woods County, in the state’s far north, is the only county in the state where there are no confirmed cases. Luck might have something to do with it but according to state infectious disease director Kris Ehresmann, the lack of COVID-19 cases in Lake of the Woods County has more to do with geography and population than being lucky.
