PODCAST NEUROSCIENCE The Power of Awe
We’ve all experienced something that feels larger than ourselves, whether it’s gazing
up at the stars or listening to a moving musical performance. SESSION POLITICS A History of Lies: From Watergate to Today
“Richard Nixon's crimes shocked America—caused such a collapse of faith in the American government and in the presidency, that in some ways, it's made it easier for all subsequent presidents to survive scandals that would have sunk earlier presidents,” says Garrett
Graff, journalist and author of Watergate: A New History. In this talk from the 2022 Aspen Ideas Festival, Graff is joined onstage by Barton Gellman, staff writer at The Atlantic, who explains that our political system has built up antibodies to the discovery that our government and leaders could lie to us. Vivian Schiller, executive director of Aspen Digital at the Aspen Institute, moderates as they discuss whether deception has come to be seen as a legitimate political tool and if there is any way for us to stop it.
