Bridgett Floyd: "It's been a troubling year, a long year."

Tonight there will be scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms northwest early. Isolated severe storms in the southeast this evening. Otherwise, mostly clear with diminishing winds. Lows in the mid-30s to lower 40s north, to upper 40s to mid-50s south. Wednesday will be mostly sunny with highs in the 50s north, to mid-60s south. George Floyd was honored Tuesday with a moment of silence in the city where he died at the hands of police, a death captured on wrenching bystander video that galvanized the racial justice movement and continues to ripple a year later. His family and their supporters vowed to keep his memory alive and work to make sure his death would not be in vain, including pressing for passage of the federal George Floyd Justice in Policing Act by Congress. Earlier in the day, dozens of gunshots rang out across George Floyd Square, heard on the Twitter feed of an Associated Press journalist.
A person with an apparent gunshot wound later turned up at nearby Abbot Northwestern hospital. The person is expected to survive.
New COVID-19 cases in Minnesota fell to their lowest point since last summer in the latest data from state health officials.
Just 256 newly reported cases, the lowest daily count since August. The number of known, active cases fell to its lowest point since September.
Another positive sign: The seven-day vaccination trend appears to be stabilizing at around 40,000 shots a day after weeks of free-fall.
