Wilda Williams A Monday Reboot
Wilda Williams, Fiction Editor

A new month, a new day! Welcome to our first Monday edition of LJ Reviews, which is chock-full of insights you can use. And, in case you missed it, you’ll also find all the book award news from ALA Midwinter as well as the National Books Critics Circle and the Mystery Writers of America. Also timely is David R. Conn’s annotated bibliography of 30 resources on alternative energy. With a new presidential administration questioning—and even suppressing—data about climate change, it’s a critical time for informed energy decisions, and, as LJ editorial director Rebecca T. Miller notes in her powerful editorial, libraries will be on the forefront of defending free and open information access.

An Archetypal Thriller

In his essay, “On Fairy-Stories,” J.R.R. Tolkien posits that a work of fantasy should allow a reader to experience a world that is credible, consistent, and rational—within the framework of its own rules.
