Benefitfocus lays off 250 people

Charleston-based Benefitfocus said it is laying off 17% of its U.S. workforce, a total of 250 employees, in response to the impact that COVID-19 is having on its business. In addition, all raises and promotions have been suspended, as has hiring for all noncritical positions. Executive pay has also been reduced.

Home or work order lifted; reactions mixed to outdoor dining

An April 6 executive order limiting travel has been lifted, and S.C. restaurants will be able to provide outdoor dining services beginning today. State officials encourage individuals at risk for COVID-19 to limit exposure to others.

Patriots Point to reopen May 15

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will reopen May 15 with several improvement projects completed during its closure induced by COVID-19. Only self-guided tours will be available; educational programs, guided tours and overnight camping operations remain suspended.

Court denies Parish’s request for release

A federal judge has denied Ponzi schemer Al Parish’s request for compassionate release, ruling that he failed to establish a basis for meeting the requirements. Parish’s attorney has filed a motion to reconsider, however, based on the fact that Parish has tested positive for COVID-19.
