RootsTech is a convention in Salt Lake that brings many different people together for one reason — to connect with their families. This coming year, 2023, will be the first hybrid (online and in-person) RootsTech ever. RootsTech went online for the first time during the pandemic, and the growth in numbers for the event was overwhelming. In 2022, 3 million people attended online. Utah to receive early monsoon dose this weekend. What does that mean for the summer?
Monsoons? In Utah? Potentially.
This season, Utah has gotten more rain than usual, and with the extreme weather that the country has been experiencing recently, it may be better to be safe rather than sorry.
Christine Kruse, a lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Salt Lake City office, said that flash floods could be a concern this weekend, especially near burn scars.
Recently, in a press conference, Gov. Spencer Cox addressed the topic of gun violence. He says that he wants to pass laws that "make a difference." He asked people to keep an open mind because in order to pass gun reform laws that help, both sides must listen to one another.
Sen. Gene Davis, D-Salt Lake City, has also been outspoken on the matter. He suggested that schools be required to have bleeding control kits. "If my colleagues are unwilling to address gun control, then we must prepare for the bloody aftermath of a mass shooting," he said.
Both Gov. Cox and Sen. Davis have said that they support some kinds of common sense gun laws, but both have found it difficult to work across party lines.
