Moorhead museum tells long-overlooked stories of Black history

Markus Krueger wants to bust a myth about the history of Fargo-Moorhead.

"There arose this myth about us that isn't true, that everybody here was white for so long, up until year X. And that wasn't true," said Krueger, programming director for the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County. "We had a thriving African American community for the first 50 years."

"This was a part of local history that we hadn't delved into before. And it's about time,” he added.

A new exhibit curated by the society focuses on the history of this long-overlooked group of early residents.

Black communities and other BIPOC communities have a history in the area that hasn’t been written down or documented well, said Gabby Clavo, communications manager for the Clay County Museum in Moorhead. “Collecting these stories is really important, so we can tell this story for future generations.”

DNR releases details of two more Line 3 aquifer breaches

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has released details of more groundwater leaks caused by the construction of the Line 3 oil pipeline last year.


The DNR has completed its investigation of three sites where crews installing the pipeline breached underground aquifers, causing uncontrolled — and unauthorized — flows of groundwater.

Testimony began Monday in the trial of a Hopkins man who’s charged in the fentanyl overdose deaths of 11 people. Federal prosecutors say Aaron Broussard, 31, bought drugs from China and sold them through the mail to buyers across the United States . Among his alleged victims was a University of Minnesota economist.

Day 1 of the confirmation hearing of Ketanji Brown Jackson, the federal judge President Biden nominated to fill Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer's seat when he retires this summer, has concluded. Here are some highlights from Monday's hearing.

As Mariupol’s defenders held out Monday against Russian demands that they surrender, the number of bodies in the rubble of the bombarded and encircled the Ukrainian city remained shrouded in uncertainty, the full extent of the horror not yet known.
