Good evening,

So here we are again, facing cycles of Covid restrictions just as we were starting to recognise a semblance of normality.
And once again it’s those folks in our hard-working NHS taking the hit as they are asked to re-double efforts on booster jabs in the run-up to and including Christmas. It was always going to be nigh-on impossible, adding a pandemic to winter pressures  - but the emergence of the new variant adds a spanner in the works.
The Prime Minister has promised ‘warp speed’  to offer every adult a booster by the end of the year and there is no doubt this is critical to stop coronavirus in its current tracks.
But pressure cannot be added endlessly to the same services and people - more creativity will be needed to tackle this issue.
The Omicron variant is unlikely to be the last, and we need to build resilience into the system to be prepared for that, rather than rely on good will and community spirit, critical though they are in any crisis.
We need to learn to live with Covid, that much is clear, because much like Christmas it will come round with regularity.

Kind regards, Nicola
