BY ANNETTE SISCO | Staff writer Happy Jazz Fest Week 2, New Orleans food fans! Although fest-goers love to find their favorite dishes at the Fair Grounds every year (looking at you, cochon de lait po-boy), this year there are a dozen new menu items to try. Checking out all the booths, we found food picks to satisfy any craving. Loretta's Authentic Pralines carries on its founder's legacy after losing "the praline queen." Enjoy the best taco recipes — plus a margarita — for Cinco de Mayo. And there's more! Let's dig in ... 1. Still hungry? After missing two years due to the pandemic, a few Jazz Fest food vendors are taking a break or retiring. But there are also two new booths at the fest this year, and an impressive 13 new dishes being offered across the Fair Grounds. Ian McNulty tried them all. 2. Sweet legacy. No one at Loretta's Authentic Pralines ever sets a timer when they're cooking the butter, sugar and pecans to make their signature New Orleans treats. That's because they learned from the best: Loretta Harrison herself. Since Harrison died in February, her family is carrying on the tradition of selling pralines at the Jazz Festival. Ian McNulty visited their kitchen to see how it's going. 3. Wait! There's more. If you have a New Orleans food craving, there's a dish at the Jazz Fest with your name on it. Hungry for a po-boy? Here are the best. Check out these filling one-plate meals. From hot sausage po-boy to Yakamein to crawfish bread, the old favorites are back. And there are many options for vegans and vegetarians. 4. Taco night! Tacos should be easy as well as delicious, and all the boxes are checked when Teresa B. Day cooks up these Cheesy Baked Tacos. Plus: Mexican Street-Style Roasted Carrots add colorful pizzazz.
