Last week, Brian Kelly helped release a bald eagle treated at the LSU vet school back into the wild. Apparently now he's given release to more members of his coaching staff. John Jancek, who took over as defensive line coach after former assistant when Jimmy Lindsey (also now a former assistant) fell ill, is out, sources tell our Wilson Alexander. Two offensive analysts are also gone. Jancek's ouster means there are no defensive staff members left from the 2023 season at LSU. The LSU women's basketball team roared back from a two-game losing streak Sunday with a 106-66 win over Florida, scoring the most points against an SEC victim (I mean, opponent) in program history. A big driver behind the Tigers' victory was Hailey Van Lith's season-high 21 points. It's been no secret that this season has been a bit of a struggle for Van Lith, a transfer from Louisville, especially as she's tried to adjust to playing point guard for LSU. But she said she was determined to be more of herself Sunday, and the results paid big dividends for the Tigers. And for Van Lith. Despite that win, LSU slipped a few spots in this week's AP poll based on its two-game losing streak. Tickets go on sale Tuesday for the SEC gymnastics championships, to be held Saturday, March 23 at the Smoothie King Center. LSU won the first time the SEC meet was held there, before an SEC Championships record crowd of 10,500. Considering how much gymnastics has grown in the past five years, if you're interested I'd get your tickets quickly. Here's a link to the SEC ticket office. Finally, the LSU gymnastics team's program record score of 198.475 Friday against Arkansas is also the nation's best score so far this season, pushing the Tigers to No. 3 in this week's RoadtoNationals.com rankings. LSU is the top-ranked team from the SEC at this point. Also, LSU's Haleigh Bryant is the nation's No. 1-ranked all-arounder. That's all for today, folks. Follow us for the latest from LSU on rankings, basketball bounces, football staff hirings and firings and the occasional bald eagle release. Until next time, Scott Rabalais |
