What's being done about traffic congestion? The City is working with all levels of government to alleviate traffic congestion, making your journey quicker and a lot less stressful. Most of the major projects in and around Cockburn are due for completion by 2021. Build confidence on your bike Haven't been on a bike for a while, or just want to feel safer and more confident? Attend an Adult Bike workshop run by an accredited instructor who will get you back on your bike and enjoying cycling in no time! Learn how to: Mount and dismount a bike Start, stop, balance and use your brakes Scan, corner and use hand signals Navigate basic traffic situations like roundabouts and crossings Wear your helmet securely. Saturday, 19 September, 2-5pm at Manning Park, Hamilton Hill. Cost: $75 (bike hire is an additional $20). A greener Hamilton Hill... The City is working closely with The Forever Project and Urban Impact Project to turn a hot 880sqm carpark at Winterfold Road and Greenslade Street into a green, leafy space that residents can enjoy. The project forms part of the City's Urban Forest Plan which aims to increase street trees and canopy cover throughout Cockburn. Take a sneak peek... New bridge for Hamilton Hill Hamilton Hill is getting a new $7M pedestrian bridge on Stock Road, with funding coming from the State Government's WA Recovery Plan. The bridge will replace the old one that was hit by a truck and damaged last year. The pedestrian and cycling connection between Hamilton Hill and Coolbellup will remain in place. |

Nominate an inspirational volunteer You don't always hear about those special people who dedicate their time to volunteer in our community. We invite you to nominate someone who volunteers for a local organisation based in or servicing Cockburn. There are two categories and the winners will share in a total prize pool of $2,400. If you know someone who deserves to be recognised for what they do, nominate them for this year's Inspirational Volunteer Award. Nominations close 25 September. |

Life back in the 1920s Looking for activities these school holidays? Take a tour through Azelia Ley Homestead Museum in Manning Park. The homestead was built in 1923 for a member of the Manning family and offers a glimpse into life at the turn of the century. Take a stroll through the house and see what the original kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom looked like. The kitchen even has some common groceries on display! Open Wednesdays during school holidays, 30 September and 7 October, 10am-1pm. $2 entry. Bookings not required. |
