More on Mardi Gras shootings

BY MATTHEW ALBRIGHT | Staff writer

More details emerged yesterday about the shooting on the route of the Krewe of Bacchus parade in New Orleans that killed one person and left four people wounded.

The victim who died was a teenager, and one of the wounded was a four-year-old girl. Police made an arrest, but it's not clear yet whether the suspect is the one who pulled the trigger.

We also got details yesterday about a shooting at the Mardi Gras parade in St. Gabriel that left one person injured. Here's what we know.

Baton Rouge's Companion Animal Alliance was overwhelmed. At one point earlier this month, the shelter had 323 dogs, twice as many as it has the capacity to handle.

An emergency adoption event relieved some of the pressure, but CAA and other shelters throughout the state are facing a long-term problem as abandoned animals pour in.

Here's the scale of the problem and what might be done about it.

How did LSU's baseball team sweep its opening series? Among others, thank Gavin Dugas, who went 6 for 8 over the weekend with two home runs.

But also thank Dugas' eye doctor. Here's a story of how an errant swing led Dugas to get his vision checked, and the work that got him in to top form for the season.
