One-hit-wonder warmth Tuesday. Many parts in southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, will see highs close to 70 degrees tomorrow. Highs in other parts will range from the lower 50s to the mid-60s. Tuesday’s balmy air mass is a one-day affair -- a cold front pushes south through Minnesota Wednesday.


COVID-19 in Minnesota today: 986 cases confirmed, 30 dead; Walz eyeing stay-home order extension. Gov. Tim Walz said Monday that he expects to decide midweek on renewing the stay-at-home order, but he strongly indicated some restrictions will stay in place past Friday. Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said Minnesotans are doing a good job overall but she did note several concerns. Read  the latest news on Minnesota’s COVID-19 situation and response.

Minnesota day care facilities remain open. But is it safe -- and ethical -- to send your child to day care? Minnesota’s stay-at-home order does not prohibit families from taking their kids to day care, but officials note that the goal is to keep providers open specifically for the children of emergency workers. “Is it our responsibility to not have them in day care? I definitely struggle with that,” says Katie Hannan of Minneapolis who still takes their two boys to their day care.

9 Moose Lake prisoners infected with coronavirus; ‘It feels like they’re giving me a death sentence. As the COVID-19 outbreak hits the Moose Lake prison, some inmates worry that the response is overly punitive and medically inadequate. As of Monday, state corrections officials say that nine prisoners and three staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at the prison. Twenty-one other prisoners are presumed to be infected based on symptoms. 

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson now in intensive care. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was moved to the intensive care unit of a London hospital after his coronavirus symptoms worsened Monday, just a day after he was admitted for what were said to be routine tests. Johnson’s office says Johnson is conscious and does not require ventilation at the moment.

Nursing homes on the front line of limiting coronavirus spread among Minnesotans
More than half of the Minnesotans who died from the respiratory illness lived in group care facilities. As of Monday, there are 90 residents and 36 staff in long-term care facilities with confirmed COVID-19 cases. Seventeen people in long-term care settings have died from COVID-19.
