Baltimore's own Morgan State University is making significant strides in research and innovation as it aims to achieve R1 status. The university received a record 13 patent awards in 2023, the highest among all Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and acquired three more patents in the first two months of 2024. This achievement is supported by the establishment of six new research centers over the past six years, with the most recent being the Center for Urban and Coastal Climate Science Research launched in February 2024. These centers have received state funding, indicating a strong commitment to advancing research and technology at Morgan State University.
