Brews, beaches and Bob Marley's son await festivalgoers in Muskegon

Thousands of beer and music lovers will crowd Muskegon’s Pere Marquette Beach for the Burning Foot Beer Festival on August 26.

This year, festivalgoers will have the opportunity to taste beer from 100 breweries, which organizers say is a first for the event since it started in 2015. Julian Marley, son of reggae legend Bob Marley, will headline the festival.

Now in its eighth year, organizers are expecting around 7,000 attendees this year, which is an increase from last year's 6,000 people.

16 people face felonies in 2020 Michigan false electors scheme

Sixteen people who allegedly sought to replace Michigan's electoral college representatives after the 2020 election with a slate supporting then-President Donald Trump are facing felony charges, Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Tuesday.

Inside the case: In a lengthy statement, Nessel said she intends to prove that the 16 defendants knowingly lied via false document and acted with intent to defraud when they presented themselves as electors of President Donald Trump, even though Joe Biden won Michigan by 154,000 votes.

In Flint: Five candidates are vying for the seventh ward seat on Flint City Council after Allie Herkenroder resigned at the beginning of the month.

Bad cops are working in Michigan communities. Union contracts make it hard to get rid of them.

A closer look: MLive looked at police contracts from Michigan’s major cities and found provisions either allowing police officers to expunge their records or barring officials from considering infractions beyond a certain time period. According to researchers and watchdog organizations, these provisions undercut basic police accountability.

The Transparency Act: Michigan’s public records law does not apply to the governor’s office or state lawmakers, but citizens may be able to change that with a new ballot initiative.

Carry on: Construction of a $3.5 billion Ford Motor Company battery plant will continue after a judge ruled against an effort to halt the project in Marshall.

Part of Michigan already in ‘long-range’ Severe Weather Outlook

Turbulent skies: A vigorous storm system is still on track to bring a period of rain into Michigan Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center has put part of southeast Lower Michigan in the severe weather outlook already for that period two days from now.

Crazy weather: A big waterspout spun up over the Straits of Mackinac just before lunchtime on Tuesday, at a time the National Weather Service had issued a special marine warning for boaters and anyone out on the water in that area.

A look ahead: The weather pattern over the Great Lakes is going to gradually shift from comfortable temperatures to hot and humid during the next 10 days.

‘It has put us on the map’: Beer City Open part of Grand Rapids’ growing pickleball scene

Professional pickleballers: The sixth installment of the Beer City Open begins Wednesday in Grand Rapids where more than 1,000 pickleball players, including many of the nation’s best, will compete for championships at the professional and amateur levels.

Coming soon: A new championship golf course that will be open to the public is coming to the Detroit area in the spring of 2024. The course will be part of Saint John’s Resort and will be the first high-end championship course to be built in the Detroit area in more than 20 years.

Michigan State football: The Spartans are finalizing an deal to play Baylor at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Dec. 16, according to a report Tuesday by CBS Sports.
