 In the aftermath of the Oxford High School shooting that led to the death of four students Tuesday, “a flood” of “completely false, intentional” threats have resulted in the closures of at least 60 Michigan schools, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Thursday. “It’s overrunning our resources to investigate these false threats,” Bouchard said. The sheriff believes the majority of the culprits are making baseless threats, either because they think “it is funny,” or they’re trying to ensure classes are cancelled. “It is not,” Bouchard said, “It is a crime ... If you’re making threats, we will find you.” The threats include a 12-year-old kid exiting a bus who said he was going to “shoot it up,” and numerous others shared with police from social media, Bouchard said. But health systems say their newly-adopted employee COVID-19 vaccine mandates aren’t a significant contributor to the staffing issues. Rather, it’s a case of heightened demand for care during the pandemic and an aging workforce not sufficiently replaced by the younger generations. “Staffing shortages are not a result of the vaccine requirement,” reads a Spectrum Health statement. “Staffing shortages have been an issue for several months." READ MORE  A marijuana safety lab is suing the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) over a recall that impacted nearly $230 million worth and 64,000 pounds of marijuana products in the state, mostly flower. Michigan Court of Claims Judge Christopher M. Murray on Monday seemed to scold MRA for its lack of clear communication related to the matter. The marijuana recall, issued on Nov. 17, was so vast that more than 400 retail shops, and their customers, were impacted in some way. Viridis Laboratories, which operates two separately licensed labs under similar ownership -- one in Bay City and another in Lansing -- claims the recall is politically motivated.
