A Michigan photographer captured a special Rose Bowl photo. Here’s how he did it. |
Picture perfect: Tyler Leipprandt of Michigan Sky Media was flying 4,000 feet with his camera above the Rose Bowl on Monday to capture photo he named "For All the Roses." The picture shows a B2 Spirit Bomber flying over the stadium before the Michigan-Alabama game. Pretty penny: Michigan fans traveling to Houston forthe national championship game on Jan. 8 might be in for a sticker shock as travel prices surge. As of Wednesday, direct flights leaving Detroit started at $1,300 and tickets to the game will cost at least $880.
The Lions are wasting no time celebrating their first conference title in 30 years, raising a NFC North championship banner at their indoor practice field heading into the season finale.

Michigan town to cull deer herd in attempt to reduce car crashes |
Reduction: Meridian Township, about 9 miles east of Lansing, has started a cull of the local white-tailed deer population in hopes of curbing car-deer crashes. Officials say they have a goal of killing 170 deer by Feb. 19. On the lookout: Kalamazoo police are looking for a vehicle connected to the New Year’s Day shooting that killed a 26-year-old man. A homicide investigation has begun, however, police have not identified a suspect yet. Total loss: Two electric vehicles were destroyed in a Wednesday house fire in Washtenaw County. It is unclear if the home car charger was the cause of the fire, but the Tesla and Volvo were both incinerated in the blaze. |

January stargazing: Fireballs, the Wolf Moon and a bright red star |
Looking up: January is full of celestial events, including a chance to see fireballs, Venus, a bright red star glowing in the winter night and more. Clear skies can increase your chances of spotting one of these events, along with staying away from light pollution. Gray skies: The National Weather Service office at Grand Rapids tracked how much sunshine the city received (or lack there of) in 2023 and the totals might be surprising. Synthetic ice: Michigan's winter might be warmer than normal this season, but the lack of snow and ice isn't stopping one Muskegon ice rink from enjoying the sport. |

March trial set for Michigan voting machine tampering probe |
Court date: Individuals charged with allegedly seizing and tampering with voting machines in the wake of Michigan’s 2020 presidential election are scheduled to go to trial March 4. Also in politics: Anné and Rob Minard, once two of the most influential unelected officials in Michigan politics, were arraigned Wednesday on more than a dozen felony charges for allegedly taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from political accounts for personal use.
The Michigan Capitol was evacuated and closed Wednesday morning after officials investigated a bomb threat. Capitols in at least five other states — Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and Montana also received threats.
