In today's newsletter, we explain what is going on with the gray wolf plan, alcohol could soon be sold at Michigan college sporting events and a lesson in weather with Mark Torregrossa.

Our apologies, but we are starting your day with some trash talk.

We've talked about inflation a lot here in the Morning Briefing. That's because we know it is on your minds. As I've promised you before in this newsletter, I am keeping my eye out for the latest updates and bringing them to you here in your inbox.

Today's update might seem like rubbish. That's because, well, it is. It's about the price of garbage collection. It's another increasing cost here in Michigan. One of our economy reporters, Lindsay Moore, has the details on how those increases might be affecting your rates.

If you are particularly interested in economy reporting, I recommend you follow Lindsay and her reporting teammate Rose White. But I will keep bringing their important work to you here, as well.

Hunting is still an option in Michigan's updated gray wolf plan if the species is de-listed again.

A hunt is possible: Allowing hunters, trappers, and livestock owners to kill gray wolves remains a part of the play book for Michigan wildlife regulators, should the species ever lose its federal protections again.

But that doesn't mean it will happen: State officials said there are no guarantees there will ever be another wolf hunt in Michigan; there’s also no guarantee in the updated plan that there won’t be.

More environment news: Two more stories to read today — Michigan regulators are demanding more information from Enbridge on its Line 5 tunnel plan and lead in Benton Harbor water has dropped below the federal safety threshold.

Some of Michigan GOP's 'concerned parents are also conservative candidates.

Concerned candidates? Although advertised only as “concerned parents” by the Michigan Republican Party, some of the coalition members at ‘Parents Against Whitmer’ events are also current GOP candidates or are otherwise already entrenched in conservative politics.

Events across the state: Michigan Republicans have been holding the small gatherings around the state, and the same thing happened at the first event in Grand Rapids three weeks ago. The party said seven people attended then, but three that MLive spoke to were also current or former local Republican candidates.

What is the state legislature up to this week? Here are three things you should know.

Fighting a court decision that keeps abortion legal: The Republican-led Michigan legislature is asking the state Court of Appeals to review a Court of Claims decision keeping abortion legal in Michigan while a Planned Parenthood lawsuit is pending.

Alcohol at the game? A new bill would allow alcoholic beverages to be sold at college sporting events in Michigan.

Bill passed on active shooter alarms : It could soon be a criminal offense to falsely pull an active shooter alarm in Michigan. These alarms, which operate like fire alarms but are blue in color, are emerging in places like school districts.
