Rich DeVos, billionaire Amway co-founder and Orlando Magic owner, dies at 92
Richard DeVos' titles almost match his list of accomplishments. He was a successful businessman, philanthropist, political contributor and community leader. He died Thursday at 92, as one of the world's most wealthy men and one of West Michigan's greatest benefactors. He saved some of his most impactful philanthropy for Grand Rapids. The DeVos family spurred the revitalization of the city, especially the redevelopment of the downtown area. He built his fortune after co-founding Amway with partner Jay Van Andel. Amway remains the world's leading direct sales company. MORE

WEATHER

After break from heat, Michigan forecast trending hotter in Sept.

Michigan is getting a welcome break from the humidity this week. However, it isn't quite time to pull out your flannel with the lingering moth ball smell. MLive chief meteorologist Mark Torregrossa is showing above-normal temperatures returning next week and remaining through the rest of September. This isn't such bad news. A few days in the 80s in late September always feels like bonus summer. MORE

Snakes alive! 2 Michigan residents bit by rattlesnakes in 1 month

OK. This is getting ridiculous. One of the many perks of living in Michigan - and reasons for putting up with harsh winters - is not having to deal (much) with tornadoes, poisonous spiders or venomous snakes. Now this: A pair of Michiganders this summer were bit by a rare Eastern massasauga rattlesnake - one in Pinckney and the other in Brooklyn. We respect all of nature's creatures. However, we'd rather respect them from a safe distance like, say, Arizona. MORE

Fans still love their Tigers, though no love is lost in the TV booth

As the Detroit Tigers battle the Chicago White Sox for third place in the Central - not to mention a top five pick in next year's draft - an off-the-field issue was bound to surface. We just didn't think it would come from the Tigers' TV booth. Apparently, announcers Mario Impemba and Rod Allen got into a scuffle after Tuesday's broadcast. Neither were in the booth Wednesday. In positive off-field news, Tiger fans love their Tigers - even during a non-contending year. In the age of texting, players get loads of fan mail. And they love it. MORE
