1 tree, 7 months, 2 photos show drastic effect of dune erosion
 
The historically high Great Lakes water levels have proven havoc for beachgoers and shoreline homeowners alike this year. We've written dozens of articles documenting the high waters and subsequent dune erosion. However, nothing brings the reality of the situation home like a few pictures. A West Michigan photographer shared a couple of pictures she took seven months apart of a tree at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon. The above "before" photo shows plenty of beach and dune grass. We're guessing you can image what the "after" shot shows. MORE

Mistrial declared on bribery, extortion charges against state lawmaker

A jury took nearly 12 hours, but still was unable to reach a verdict on the bribery and extortion charges against state Rep. Larry Inman. Jurors did find him not guilty of a third charge of lying to an FBI agent. Said one juror afterward: "All I can say is the jury was pretty evenly split the whole way ... Michigan native has title role in new Clint Eastwood film
 
Saginaw native Paul Houser is making quite a name for himself in Hollywood. After landing supporting roles in such films as "Super Troopers 2," "I, Tonya" and "BlackKklansman," the Valley Lutheran grad takes his first major star turn this week. Houser plays the title character in the new Clint Eastwood movie "Richard Jewell," which premiers nationwide Friday.
