Some people decorate for Christmas as soon as the calendar flips to November, some wait until after Thanksgiving. If you're like my family, you procrastinate until the middle of December.
A radio station in West Michigan is happily obliging those who are ready to swap their pumpkin spice for peppermint. At 6:55 a.m. yesterday, Star 105.7 “flipped the switch” to Christmas music.
I'll give in and share some Christmas content with you. This spot may have the most Christmas lights in all of Michigan and a forest is being transformed into illuminated Christmas walkthrough. |

Ford workers first to cast their votes in UAW tentative agreement |
To the polls: The parking lot at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant parking lot was full yesterday as the plant comes back online after idling for six weeks. Across the street, United Auto Worker members streamed into Local 900′s union hall to cast their vote on Ford’s tentative agreement. Accounts for lost production and wages:The price tag on the strike continues to go up, even as the strike itself winds down. The latest total is $10.4 billion in losses, according to The Anderson Economic Group. Mulling its future:Construction remains paused on Ford Motor Co.’s $3.5 billion electric vehicle battery plant in Marshall even after the automaker reached a tentative agreement to end the strike. |

Why dead birds are being found on beaches at Sleeping Bear Dunes |
Over the weekend:An estimated 300 dead birds were found along beaches at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The birds likely died from an outbreak of type-E botulism, also known as avian botulism. Speaking of birds: A study has found that the same space storms that might produce dazzling Northern Lights displays have another effect on Earth: They can impact birds’ ability to migrate. From birds to bats: A group of women celebrating their 50th high school reunion allegedly got quite scare this past summer and have filed a lawsuit against Airbnb after they were reportedly attacked by a colony of bats. |

Decades-old sexual assault claims may soon see their day in Michigan courts |
The latest: Survivors of decades-old sexual assaults may soon get a two-year period to bring civil cases against their alleged abuser while also seeing the actionable window for bringing a claim expanded under moves made by House lawmakers Tuesday. More details: Members of the House Criminal Justice Committee voted along party lines to advance legislation – HB 4482 through HB 4487, referred to as the “Justice for Survivors” package – which seeks to primarily allow victims of childhood sexual abuse the ability to bring forward their claims long after the act has occurred. Be aware: Researchers and law enforcement warn of an increase in the severity of domestic violence throughout the state. |

Michigan State’s home finale will set record for 100-year history of Spartan Stadium |
For all the storied history, a new record will be set on Saturday when Michigan State hosts Nebraska. It will mark the earliest final home game for the Spartans since a 23-0 loss against Alma on Oct. 27, 1900, which was played at Old College Field, prior to Spartan Stadium being built. Six predictions for MSU basketball: Before Michigan State opens the 2023-24 season on Monday against James Madison, here are some predictions about the Spartans this season. For the Wolverines:There are many stats that highlight Michigan's dominance this season, but none are as incredible as this: When a team throws the ball against Michigan, it’s more often led to a touchdown for Michigan than for the opponent. |

Warm-up on the way this week |
An upward swing: The cold and snow are going to move on later this week, as temperatures are expected to get closer to average for this time of year. A southwesterly flow is going to bring in warmer air and give us a bit of an increase in high temperatures for the next few days.
Something to watch for: Late next week is a time to watch for another possible winter period, according to NOAA. This is an experimental forecast that highlights where heavy snow could occur. They have placed Michigan in an area where there is a 20% chance of heavy snow. This would be sometime between Nov. 8 and Nov. 14. Their definition of heavy snow is usually hinged to the location and time of year. Topples 113-year-old record: Heavy snow fell over part of western Lower Michigan on Tuesday. At some locations, this was the most snow ever recorded on a Halloween, and by a large margin. |
