Unfortunately, that means not everyone who gets the virus can receive those treatments. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has established priority eligibility criteria and vaccination status is a considered factor, along with age and certain medical conditions. While some argue that the unvaccinated should not be the ones first eligible for treatments, they actually are first. Why? They are most likely to get severely sick with COVID, or to die from the virus. Many people thought this would be a brief, little-noticed blip on the long ledger of baseball labor battles. Instead, it’s threatening to delay spring training and potentially the 2022 regular season. There’s no hard-and-fast deadline for saving spring training or Opening Day, but it’s getting close to crunch time. If the lockout lingers into next week, we all may have to acknowledge something that we’ve avoided for the last two months: The start of spring training, and thus the start of the 2022 regular season, is in serious jeopardy.
