Pink Cadillac, music and memories mark viewing of Aretha Franklin in Detroit
They came from across the country to pay their respects and reminisce about the Queen of Soul. The week of celebration in honor of Aretha Franklin, who died earlier this month at the age of 76, continued Tuesday in Detroit during the first two days of public viewings. Franklin will be laid to rest at a private funeral Friday. Tears were common from the fans on hand Tuesday at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. And everyone came with a cherished memory of the famed entertainer and civil rights activist. Said one attendee: "The five-day celebration of her life is not enough." MORE

PFAS investigator: I was not trying to protect Snyder

A former DHHS director who played a prominent role in authoring a report on PFAS contamination in the Flint River insisted she was not trying to protect Gov. Rick Snyder. Linda Dykema's comments were in response to an MLive article that found state officials knew of PFAS in the Flint River ahead of the ill-fated drinking water switch, but may not have notified city officials of the growing danger. On Monday, the DEQ said no evidence exists that PFAS made it into Flint drinking water. A nonprofit noted in the earlier MLive report that Flint water tests may be misleading because they were collected at a time when low readings of the chemicals were counted as zero. MORE
