DeVos talks innovation, school safety during Grand Rapids public school visit
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos paid a visit to a Grand Rapids public school Thursday. She met with students and educators, and she spoke briefly with the media on a range of topics. DeVos highlighted innovations in education and school safety during her time at the Museum School, which opened in 2015 for grades 6-8 and is housed within the Grand Rapids Public Museum. MORE

MSU hires UVA head to help with president search
 
Michigan State University has hired a graduate of MSU's James Madison College to assist in the search for the university's next president. Teresa Sullivan, who is the outgoing president at the University of Virginia and a former provost at University of Michigan, will assist the MSU Board of Trustees in the ongoing search to replace Lou Anna K. Simon. Former Gov. John Engler remains MSU's interim president.

Where Michigan colleges draw the most students
 
Who doesn't love a good dive into the data? MLive public interest reporter Julie Mack has another fun database for us to explore with a look at where Michigan's high school Class of 2017 enrolled in college. Nearly 61 percent of last year's grads were enrolled in college within six months of leaving high school. Their top destination: Michigan State with more that 5,000 students. Grand Valley State, University of Michigan, Central Michigan and Western Michigan rounded out the top 5. (Note: the database in this post for allows searching by either high school or college. The top 50 Michigan high schools for athletics
 
Trying to determine the best Michigan high school for athletics is an inexact science. However, the good folks at Niche.com are game for giving it a go. The site conducted a survey, and then used five weighted criteria to produce its results. We compiled the info for the top 50 schools. Not to play spoiler, but Saline took top honors in the ranking for the second year in a row. Congrats, Hornets. You all must be doing something right! MORE

So, with that as the baseline, MLive Frankenmuth music scene beat writer Ed Pevos sat down with Greta Van Fleet to learn a few things about this young Michigan quartet that quickly is gaining a worldwide fan base. Here's a couple of tidbits to whet your appetite: The band plans to release its first full-length album this summer. Don't expect any more Led Zeppelin covers anytime soon.
