What's a fall like without football? Rumors swirled on Monday about the Big Ten canceling fall football (and all fall sports for that matter). But outrage from coaches and players was so loud across social media, that for 24 hours, diehard fans held out hope and prayed to the football gods that this couldn't possibly be real. Well, it's real, folks. On Tuesday, the Big Ten became the first Power 5 conference to pull the plug on fall sports (there's talk of moving it to the spring, but this pandemic has made planning too far ahead a fool's errand). The Pac-12 followed later in the day. The SEC, well, do we really think it's even possible to cancel football in the South? Here in Michigan, the fallout is both emotional and financial. We've got reactions from the heartbroken and some early numbers on just how mammoth the hole will be in U-M and MSU budgets without their fall juggernaut. Also, what does one do on fall Saturdays? Kamala Harris, D-Calif., to be his running mate in 2020. Biden’s announcement ended months of speculation about who would join him on the Democratic ticket. Michiganders were particularly interested because Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was a potential pick. So why wasn't Whitmer chosen? We dove in to find out. NEWSIndependent investigation will look into what caused Michigan dams to fail An independent forensic investigation team will look into what caused the Midland-area Edenville and Sanford dams to fail. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will contract with a third-party investigative team to examine the May 19 failures of the two dams as well as the operations of the nearby Smallwood and Secord dams. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) is on board with the move, though the investigation will be independent of the state and federal agencies. According to EGLE, it is long overdue and something the residents of Mid-Michigan "deserve and are not getting from the owner of the dams."
