Stellantis, Ford ratify UAW deal, officially ending Big Three negotiation |
Five months and billions of dollars later, there’s a new contract in place for autoworkers at all three Detroit auto companies. Workers ratified the last United Auto Worker contract on Monday. At Ford and Stellantis, union members voted in favor for the tentative agreement. General Motors employees ratified their contract, albeit by a slim margin, on Nov. 16. Concerns: Those who live in Michigan towns with old hydroelectric dams have big feelings about possible changes to their rivers and the impoundments behind the renewable energy facilities. More in big business:Amazon is planning a big delivery in Michigan, but it won’t give out an address. The company announced plans to build a sprawling solar farm in Southwest Michigan, but it was news to the supervisor of the township. |

Rain, snowmaker on the way for Michigan ahead of Thanksgiving travel |
Plan accordingly: The weather is going to take a turn for the worse as we head into today. A low pressure system is going to approach us from the south, giving us rain and snow chances across Michigan. Who will get what will depend on where you’re located in the state. Breaking it down: The quick story on our Thanksgiving weather across the region is no major winter weather driving conditions. In fact, from Wednesday morning on through most of next Sunday we should be dry. Traveling out of the state? Today will be the hardest day on airline flights as a large storm system brings rain into the eastern half of the U.S. This same storm will dump heavy snow on the inland areas and higher elevations of the Northeast. |

Hit Netflix doc ‘Escaping Twin Flames’ is rooted in Michigan. What’s it all about? |
Seeking soulmate help: A couple, who go by Jeff and Shaleia Divine, have been accused by former devotees of exerting an unhealthy level of control over the people who come to them for help finding their “twin flame” and of enriching themselves at their followers’ expense. Opening up: In a new memoir “Jonestown: An American Family Tragedy,” author H.J. Jones recounts how her younger sister's search for a greater purpose led her to join Peoples Temple. More in human interest: As teenagers, they powered WWII. Now, Michigan’s original "Rosies" are living history. |

Domestic abusers get 8-year gun ban under new Michigan law |
Background: When Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was running for reelection in July 2022, her campaign organized a public safety roundtable in Kalamazoo. There, Martha and Rick Omilian spoke with the governor. In 1999 their daughter Maggie, then a sophomore at Kalamazoo College, had been shot and killed by a jealous ex-boyfriend. They told Whitmer they wanted to see a law that would keep guns out of the hands of those who commit domestic violence. They were on hand to see their request fulfilled as Whitmer gathered with advocates and lawmakers to sign a new law that temporarily bans those convicted of domestic violence-related crimes from having or using guns. |
