Businesses discharging PFAS into Michigan's waterways
The search for PFAS contamination in Michigan mostly has been focused on old factory sites, military bases or where fire fighting foam is known to have been used. However, an MLive investigation revealed that manufacturing businesses across the state are sending high volumes of these "forever chemicals" daily into wastewater systems that eventually discharge into the state's lakes and rivers. While state officials are on the forefront nationally in terms of testing for PFAS, there are few regulations - either nationally or at the state level - to curb the spread of PFAS. As such, after a year of testing in Michigan, not one known high-level polluter has yet to reduce its PFOS discharge to target levels. MORE

This long-awaited and rumored announcement already has some Jeep enthusiasts in a lather. The automaker last offered a truck model in 1992. (Jeepers already are an interesting lot, what with their Jeep wave and - we assume - secret handshakes.) Jeep's history in the truck market began in 1947 with the aptly named Jeep Truck. MORE

Beloved Christmas tree boat returns to Northern Michigan lake

High winds capsized the Siepker family's Christmas tree last year. That's right, capsized. The Siepker's live in Glen Arbor on Big Glen Lake. A few years ago they started a new holiday tradition: Decorate a Christmas tree, secure it in an aluminum boat and float it in the lake. The small community about 40 miles northwest of Traverse City has embraced the floating tree decked out with festive lights. Last year's capsizing event certainly made waves, but the Siepker's are back at it again this year with an even bigger tree. MORE
